Hollywood insiders confirmed today that Mickey Rourke will reprise his titular role in a sequel to the 2008 film The Wrestler, this time depicting Randy “The Ram” Robinson retired from the ring and doing a podcast with Conrad Thompson.
The film depicts the all-too-real challenges facing aging pro wrestlers who, missing the spotlight, seek the help of podcaster Conrad Thompson to regale fans with half-truths and tall tales from their glory days.
An early teaser for the film depicts Randy The Ram and Thompson deep in conversation about the “rumor and innuendo” surrounding his bout against The Ayatollah, depicted in the original Wrester movie.
The sequel largely centres around Randy delivering meandering monologues about long road trips, juvenile ribs, and self-congratulatory stories, and doing ad-reads formortgages and erectile dysfunction chewing gum.
Returning director Darren Aronofsky said the sequel is part of a trilogy, and promised that the third part will feature Randy “The Ram” Robinson getting inappropriately drunk and removing his trousers at a Las Vegas casino during the Cauliflower Alley Club reunion.
