Legendary wrestling commentator Jim Ross today announced his retirement from World Wrestling Entertainment, and the company issued a statement wishing Ross “all the best in carrying on his current endeavors.”

“We are sure the transition into retirement will be very, very smooth for Good ‘Ol JR,” said the news release.

Nobody within WWE seem to know exactly what Ross had been doing to earn his living over the past year.

“I think he tweeted a lot, and taste-tested barbeque sauces,” said one WWE staffer on condition of anonymity.

Although Ross made his mark as one of the best play-by-play commentators in wrestling history, he was scarcely seen at ringside or at WWE corporate headquarters over the past year or so.

Asked how he will spend the first day of his retirement tomorrow, Ross thought for a moment, shrugged, and replied: “The usual, I guess.”

Added Ross: “Business did not just pick up! Or slow down, for that matter.”
