After decades of successfully performing as The Undertaker in World Wrestling Entertainment, Mark Calaway is beginning a well-earned retirement — and WWE is wasting no time in re-casting the empty role.

During a conference call with investors, WWE honcho Vince McMahon said “The New Undertaker” will be chosen through a reality-TV program on the WWE Network called Taker Search.

A dozen WWE superstars will vie for the coveted role of Undertaker, competing in a series of challenges to determine which one will “breathe new life into the Deadman.”

Among the frontrunners reportedly being considered for the role of New Undertaker:

  • Konnor
  • Otis
  • Nathan Jones
  • Kalisto
  • Dominick Mysterio
  • Nia Jax
  • Baron Corbin
  • Gregory Iron
  • That really tall guy who hangs out with AJ Styles

Although many fans believe the original Undertaker is irreplaceable, most don’t realize that no fewer than six different men have played the role since the character debuted three decades ago. The version of The Undertaker that threw Mick Foley off the Hell in a Cell cage, for instance, was portrayed by Chris Kaynon (and many fans say nobody was better).
