As it became increasingly clear to millions of wrestling fans that last night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view was going to run significantly later than anticipated, countless fans succumbed to sleep, assuming they would miss the end.

Imagine their surprise to discover that, as of 8am ET today, the 27th entrant (debuting Kenny Omega) just made his entrance, and nine superstars remain in the ring battling for the opportunity to main-event WrestleMania.

During the hours when 97 percent of wrestling fans were fast asleep, the Royal Rumble featured a number of surprise entrants — Space Monkey, CM Punk, The Rock, Scotty Goldman 2.0 — and a surprising double backflip moonsault by Jerry Lawler.

Vince McMahon is reportedly “furious” that the event has dragged on so long, insisting that the Lesnar-versus-Balor match was supposed to be a one-minute squash victory for the champion.
