Ronda Rousey sparked headlines around the world when she seemingly indicated her participation in WWE’s WrestleMania by pointing at a large sign for the event, but the former UFC fighter insists she was merely pointing at a friend sitting near the sign.

“In hindsight, I can see how people might have misinterpreted the gesture,” Rousey said at a press conference this morning.

“I apologize for the confusion.”

Rousey says that when made her surprise appearance at Sunday’s Royal Rumble event, she simply wanted to congratulate Asuka, say hello to old “frenemy” Stephanie McMahon, and acknowledge her lifelong best friend, Gladys Menderchuk, who was sitting in the cheap seats.

“Gladys had an obstructed view behind that big purple sign, so the crazy part is I don’t think she even saw me pointing at her,” Rousey said.

Rousey added that she will “definitely not compete at WrestleMania,” because — as many pundits have pointed out — she is only trained in the “worked” matches of phony UFC and not the real sport of professional wrestling.
