Just days after making his much-ballyhooed return to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), CM Punk has been sent to the company’s “developmental” promotion for “urgent retraining.”

Punk, re-branded in NXT as Brooks Philbert, will engage in a months-long feud with Noam Dar, performing mostly in so-called “dark matches” (non-televised bouts) until his skills are back up to WWE standards.

One backstage source, who asked to be identified only as Akira T., said Punk will need to “unlearn the AEW style” in order to wrestle on WWE’s main roster.

Punk received a thunderous ovation upon his surprise return at WWE Survivor Series, but reports from recent house shows describe Punk as klutzy, chubby and frequently sneaking sips from an inexpensive box of red wine.
