Although wrestling pundits have insisted for decades that Ric Flair could “have a five-star match with a broomstick,” they were proven wrong during a bizarre and boring display last weekend.

Flair and a wooden broomstick squared off at an independent wrestling event in North Carolina Saturday, failing to live up to the decades of hype that preceded it.

Triple-H has long been one of the most vocal proponents of the match, frequently stating in interviews that “Flair is so good, he could wrestle a broomstick and have the audience on their feet.”

Apparently Triple-H, and anyone who made similar proclamations, was plain wrong.

According to fans who attended the event, the match was slow-paced, confusing and a more than a little sad.

Flair shoved the broomstick into the corner during the early-goings, and attempted to deliver a series of knife-edge chops, but they lacked the satisfying slapping sound fans have come to expect, and the audience failed to respond with the typical cry of “woooo.”

Flair latter tried to apply a figure-four leglock, but was stymied by the broomstick’s single, unbending appendage.

The match ended at a 30-minute time limit draw, leaving most in attendance bewildered and disappointed.

Most fans agreed, however, that it was better than Flair’s 1991 match against El Gigante.
