Following his show-stealing stumble during WWE’s Bestest Royalest Rumble Ever in Saudi Arabia, professional wrestler Titus O’Neil has been granted the high honour of inheriting the nickname of WWE COO Hunter Hearst Helmsley, “Trips.”

Bestowing a nickname is a time-honoured tradition in professional wrestling, with notable examples including:

  • “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers granting the nickname to Ric Flair
  • “Rowdy” Roddy Piper giving his blessing for Ronda Rousey to use the monicker
  •  Ray “The Crippler” Stevens bequeathing the nickname to [REDACTED]

O’Neil says he is “honoured and extremely embarrassed to have earned the nickname “Trips,” since he realizes that a single misstep will probably define his entire career in a Shockmaster-esque manner.

A close friend, however, told O’Neil that it could be worse: “At least you didn’t get my old gimmick,” said Terry Taylor.
