More than 25 years after attending the monumental WrestleMania III event, the last remaining attendee, Derek Hemsworth, has finally made it out of the Pontiac Silverdome parking lot.

Looking exhausted but relieved, Hemsworth navigated his 1985 Honda Accord through the gates of the sprawling parking lot on the outskirts of Detroit.

Hemsworth thought he was being clever by arriving at the Silverdome extra-early on March 29, 1987, snagging a parking space right next to the venue. What he didn’t realize at the time, however, was that he would be farthest from the exit when the event concluded.

The other 93,173 fans who attended the legendary wrestling event were all ahead of him in the queue to exit, resulting in Hemsworth’s 25-year delay in getting home.

Despite the quarter-century he spent in traffic, Hemsworth said it was “totally worth it.”

“Seeing (Hulk) Hogan slam Andre (the Giant) was incredible,” he said. “I can’t wait to their next match.”

Apparently word of Andre the Giant’s 1993 death had not yet reached Hemsworth.
