Wrestling fans worldwide were abuzz today with the announcement that legendary wrestler Kurt Angle would make his long-awaited in-ring return this Sunday, but World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has just issued a statement clarifying that it will be Curtis Axel, not Kurt Angle, in action at Sunday’s TLC event.

Citing an “unfortunate typographical error due to similarities of syntax,” a WWE spokesperson apologized for the confusion, insisting that Kurt Angle will remain in his non-wrestling role of SmackDown General Manager for the foreseeable future.

“We believe Curtis Axel is the most suitable replacement for the ailing Roman Reigns, given that Barry Horowitz was not available,” reads the statement.

The accidental announcement that Kurt Angle would wrestle seems to have stemmed from an offhand remark from backstage agent Pat Patterson, whose French-Canadian accent makes the names of the two wrestlers sound even more strikingly similar.

WWE also apologized for a second error — the announcement that AJ Styles would face Finn Balor this Sunday; in fact, due to another contractual typo, Balor will face AJ’s father, Joey.
