Hot on the heels of the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) will host an even grander spectacle in the United Arab Emirates titled, somewhat puzzlingly, The Greatest American Bash.

“Previous American Bashes will seem un-great in comparison,” said Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of State-Sactioned Sports-Entertainment.

The Great American Bash has a long history in professional wrestling, dating back to the mid-1980s as part of Jim Crockett Promotions, but the upcoming event in Abu Dhabi will be the first one held outside of the United States — and the first to be held outdoors in 175-degree heat.

Matches already announced for The Greatest American Bash include:

  • 75-man over-the-top-rope steel cage battle royal
  • Ric Flair vs. Nikita Koloff (rematch from first Great American Bash)
  • Brock Lesnar vs. the entire UAE rugby team
  • The Undertaker vs. Rusev Curt Hawkins

The event will be part of WWE’s so-called “Middle East Invasion,” which most political pundits believe is a poor choice of wording that may only exacerbate existing geopolitical problems in the region.
