Professional wrestler and marijuana enthusiast Rob Van Dam has become a viral internet sensation for an eye-catching stunt in which he did “epic splits” spanning a pair of weed delivery vans.

Van Dam performed the stunt as part of a commercial for Volkswagen, to publicize the automaker’s revival of the boxy VW vans popular during the 1960s and 1970s.

The 30-second commercial, accompanied by the evocative Enya song “Only Time,” features voiceover narration from Van Dam as the camera pans out from a close-up of his face.

“I’ve had my share of ups and downs,” Van Dam says, staring at the camera with relaxed, bloodshot eyes. “My fair share of chairshots and frog splashes. That’s what made me what I am today: the whole F’n show.”

As the camera pans back, viewers see that Van Dam is straddling a pair of brightly colored VW vans, plumes of white smoke billowing out their windows.

Van Dam’s voice-over continues: “What you see is a body crafted to perfection, wrapped in a tacky airbrushed singlet that smells like a Grateful Dead concert, and a mindset to master the second-most epic of splits.”

Some viewers have criticized the ad for being derivative of a Volvo commercial featuring action star Jean-Claude Van Damme performing a similar stunt.

The wrestler, however, insists that his VW commercial — and his entire wrestling persona — is not the slightest bit influenced by Van Damme.

He declined to answer further questions at a press conference, however, because he succumbed to a sudden craving for Taco Bell.
