rock roll express hofWorld Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced today that Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty — the high-flying tag team known collectively as The Rockers — will be among the Class of 2017 in the company’s prestigious Hall of Fame.

The induction of The Rockers — also known as The Midnight Rockers in AWA, and Well Dunn in WWF — is long overdue recognition for the team, who rose to fame in their early days as The Fabulous Ones.

Under the management of Jim Cornette, The Rockers were embroiled in legendary feuds against The Four Horsemen (Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Charlotte Flair and Paul Roma), The Legion of Demolition, Hall and Oates, and the Midnight Express (Tom Zenk and Rick Martel).

The Rockers split up on a 1991 episode of Piper’s Pit, during which Jannetty ripped the shirt and gold crucifix off Michaels’ chest, leading to a main-event singles match at WrestleMania, which Jannetty won thanks to outside interference from his cousin Luke.

Jannetty would go on to a very successful singles career — earning the nickname Mr. In Your House — while Michaels would struggle to resurrect his former tag glory in The New Rockers with partner Al Snow.

It is believed that The Rockers will be inducted by former rival and WWE Hall of Famer Burt Hart.
