In a strange case of art-imitating-life-imitating-art, professional wrestler Jerry Lynn has been cast to portray actor Mickey Rourke in a feature-length documentary about the making of the hit film The Wrestler.

Lynn was a natural choice for the role, since he bears a striking resemblance to Randy “The Ram” Robinson, the fictional character portrayed by Mickey Rourke in the critically acclaimed film about a down-on-his-luck wrestler performing on the American indy circuit.

“I’m honored to be chosen for the part,” Lynn said at a press conference yesterday. “I’ve always wanted to portray an actor portraying a wrestler.”

Lynn has been paired with an acting coach, and the duo are in the midst of an intense regimen to ensure Lynn is able to accurately portray a middle-aged, bleached-blond wrestler struggling to make ends meet in the farm leagues of pro wrestling.

The documentary was originally supposed to star Rourke himself, but he was unavailable because he is currently filming a documentary about Sylvester Stallone’s portrayal of Rocky.
